LONG BEACH TOWNSHIP — Family and friends on Tuesday will remember a commercial fisherman who died when his boat capsized off New Jersey.

A Mass will be celebrated for 53-year-old Jim Mears at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Long Beach Township.

The Barnegat Light resident and crewman Trevor Horan were fishing for monkfish aboard the Mandy Ness when the vessel capsized about 10 miles off Long Beach Island last Tuesday.

Horan managed to swim to safety.

A Coast Guard rescue swimmer found Mears in the cabin and he was pronounced dead.

He is survived by two children.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
